Hope you had a fun weekend relaxing, art hopping or perhaps supporting Hunt athletes at the Cross Country Invitational or the BHS Homecoming Football game. It was nice to see some new faces at the first PTO meeting of the year. (minutes from the meeting to come...) Showing up for monthly meetings is just one way you can get involved. Other ideas include:
- Join a fundraiser team to help plan and execute sales/events - Wreath sale, Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction, Plant and Yard Sale
- Volunteer at events like the Harvest Dinner and Pancake Breakfast
- Join the Play committee to work with parents and students to put on Starlight Express this Spring
- Use your green thumb to help pull weeds, replace plants and place mulch in our flower gardens
- Any special events/traditions from your old school that you might want to bring to Hunt? Pitch it via email or at the next PTO meeting!
Contact us and let us know we can count on your help this year! Email: huntmiddleschool@gmail.com

Parenting... I thought by middle school things would be getting easier... little did I know the really difficult stuff was just starting. What I wouldn't do for the quick fix of a new diaper, nap or kissing of boo boos... Many of you who know me know that I am a big fan of parenting educator Vickie Hoefle. While her reach is now countrywide, she still calls Vt home and runs parenting classes locally from time to time. She also is launching a new book to follow up Duct Tape Parenting.
I like Vickie's philosophy that our job is to teach/train our kids to do for themselves and that our children should have a solid set of life skills to take into the world when they graduate high school and leave our nest. I often look at her lists of skills to teach and compare them with what my kids know now and still need to acquire before leaving the house.
Vickie has a great blog you might find interesting, lists of books you might want to peruse and some fave websites that will help you talk about difficult topics. Top on the blog right now is a post about your child coming across porn on the internet and an infographic about teens and sexting.
Vickie also turned me onto a fabulous sex educator, Laci Green. Laci has a youtube channel with countless short videos covering any sex/sexuality issue you could imagine. (and I have an active imagination!) Laci is young, hip and has a very frank/no nonsense approach to sex/sexuality. Just another weapon you might want to put in your sex ed arsenal... (or you could just wait for your childs' friends to clue them in - other teens are a great source for complete and accurate sexual education...)

HMS PTO FALL FUNDRAISER Hunt PTO will be running a fall gift wrap fundraiser through the Innisbrook company this year. This is a traditional fundraiser that allows families to purchase/sell items through Innisbrook. Innisbrook offers many products, mainly gift wrap, kitchen/organizing items, and gift products. The fundraiser will run from September 17-October 9th. The funds raised from this fundraiser will go back into the school through the programs that the PTO funds each year. These programs include: individual team/classroom enrichment funds, HMS athletics, school-wide assemblies, service projects, HMS drama, among other things.
We are asking that families who would like to participate in this fundraiser fill out a permission slip and return it to the school. A permission slip has been sent home with each student. Once we have received the permission slip a fundraising packet will go home with your child.
You can also email your child's information directly to Jen L'Ecuyer at jlecuyer7@gmail.com, if you would like a fundraising packet sent home. The information should include: student's name, team & home room teacher, parent/guardian email & phone information. If you are not sure that you would like to participate and would like to look at the catalog and products offered you can go to innisbrook.com and take a look. Please consider participating in this fundraiser and supporting HMS.
